Propylene glycol:
Industrial grade Propylene glycol applications.
1、It is an important raw material for the production of unsaturated polyester, epoxy resin, polyurethane resin, plasticizer and surfactant.
2、Used as plasticizer and ink additive of alkyd resin.
3、It has excellent bactericidal property and wettability, and can be miscible with many substances. It is the solvent of grease, paraffin, resin, dye, etc. In advanced antifreeze, it is used as wetting agent and dissolving agent.
4、In the coating industry, Propylene glycol has low freezing point and can be mixed with water in any ratio. It can greatly reduce the overall freezing point of the coating after mixing with water, which enhances the anti-freezing property of the coating, so it is often used as antifreeze agent in the coating, which can make the coating not freeze at 0 degree. Because of its good compatibility with water and other solvents and high boiling point, it is easy to reach the balance in water-based coating system, and it can also provide the fluidity of the coating and make the coating dry slowly.
Food grade Propylene glycol Applications
1、In the food industry, it is used as an excellent solvent for various spices, pigments and preservatives; an extraction solvent for vanilla beans, roasted curry grains, natural spices, etc.; a moisturizing and softening agent for candy, bread, packaged meat, etc.
2、be used as a humectant tobacco industry .
3、It is used to produce food emulsifier Propylene glycol ester (the main varieties are propylene glycol monostearate, propylene glycol monooleate, propylene glycol monolaurate).
4、It is used as stabilizer, coagulant and anti-dissolving agent in confectionery, and also as softening agent and emulsifier of gum-based confectionery.
5, as fruit ripening preservatives.
Pharmaceutical grade Propylene glycol uses.
Pharmaceutical grade Propylene glycol can be divided into two categories according to their function:
1、Directly used as auxiliary material
①. Used in the pharmaceutical industry as a solvents for the production of injections, eye drops, oral solutions, disinfectants, lotions (tantalizers), ointments, etc..
②. Used as a solvent and softener in cosmetics, Propylene glycol can be found in almost all forms of color cosmetics, hair care products, lotions, after shave care products, deodorants, mouthwashes, and toothpastes. It is generally used as a wetting agent with glycerin or sorbitol in cosmetics, toothpaste and soaps. It is used as a wetting and leveling agent in hair dyes.
2、Used as reaction material
In production of flavors cyclohexanone 1,2-propanediol acetal, butanone 1,2-propanediol acetal, citral 1,2-propanediol acetal, benzaldehyde 1,2-propanediol acetal, etc.
